Scientology's secular fronts: "Dissemination" expenses

The "dissemination" expense/income (or such) is an item commonly found in the 990 filings of Scientology secular fronts.

Since Scientology's secular fronts are based on L. Ron Hubbard writings, "dissemination," — also often referred as "advertising" or "promotion" in the 990 filings — is defined as "spreading information on Dianetics and Scientology broadly, using books, tapes and other works by L. Ron Hubbard." ^[ref] It is possible that portion of the "dissemination" expenses benefit other Scientology entities as licensing fees are required to print and distribute L. Ron Hubbard writings.

The amounts are calculated using line 38 of the 990 filings — "Printing and publications" — and items marked as "promotion," "dissemination," and "advertising" at line 43.
