However, in May 1993, he admitted in papers he submitted to the prestigious High Court in England that if his potential clients knew about his history, they would not hire him. Atack's papers concerned a suit he brought against the Church of Scientology in an attempt to suppress details of his criminal record and psychiatric history, claiming that his livelihood was threatened if these facts were made known. This information, however, is a matter of public record. It had been voiced by Atack to acquaintances many times over the years. Also, a local newspaper had reported his convictions for illegal drug possession and cultivation. Atack lost his case. He refused to comply with three separate Court orders to supply details of his income to substantiate his claims. High Court Judge Mr. Justice Bell threw his case out of court and awarded the Church costs, assessed at more than 30,000 pounds. The history that Atack wants to keep secret includes convictions for illegal drug possession and cultivation and his purchase of LSD in lots of 50 to 100 doses for re-sale as well as his own use. LSD causes hallucinations and can bring about temporary or permanent insanity. These convictions occurred prior to Atack's first entry into a Church of Scientology in 1974. When Atack entered the Church, he lied to Church executives that the fines imposed for his drug convictions had all been paid. This was discovered when he was arrested in January 1976 for not paying them. Another fact that Atack doesn't want known, according to his dismissed and discredited suit, is that in 1974, he was admitted to a psychiatric hospital where he was given sedatives and antidepressants. Atack later stated that "I was no longer capable of handling my mind" and that "a cell would help me to shut out the outside world." At one point, he was knocked out by drugs for 20 hours straight. A month after his release he apparently tried to overdose on the drug, sodium amytal. As an example of the absurdity of Atack's claim to have any understanding of actual events involving the Church of Scientology, he announced in 1983, the year he was expelled from the Church, that the Church was under investigation by the Internal Revenue Service in the United States and as a result of what the IRS would find, the Church had "only about seven weeks left." Eleven years later, the Church has expanded greatly, with more than 1,300 churches, missions and groups in countries all over the world. And the IRS investigation? In October 1993 the IRS concluded that all churches of Scientology exist exclusively for charitable and religious purposes and confirmed that they should be granted the same tax-exempt status and rights of every other bona fide religion. Atack pretends that he has "information" about the Church of Scientology that the Church does not tell its own members. But after reviewing Atack's "confidential" documents, one man said, "someone in the Church had already given me most of them, including a copy of the booklet written by one local antagonist [Atack himself], and suggested I read the whole lot and make up my own mind. I did not have to read many pages before I found several things [Atack claimed] that I knew from my own experience [in Scientology] were completely misleading." This Scientologist also found out that Atack had charged his parents 6,000 pounds to get the Church member to renounce his beliefs. Atack's interference resulted in serious turmoil within the family and was a complete waste of the parents' money. The man remained in the Church and is considering legal action to get his parents' money back from Atack. The Scientologist made a formal complaint to the police regarding Atack's representation of himself as a counselor when he has no qualifications as such. Atack's claims to expertise are only believed in by individuals unfortunate enough to be taken in because they know nothing about him.
