Apparently, the Moonies, using the name CARP, have been recruiting 250 students from the USSR and offering them a free stay for 3-4 weeks in the USA this summer. The Soviet students have had to commit themselves to attend classes during their stay in the USA. Soviet students are particularly vulnerable as they know little of the teachings or brainwashing methods of cults like the Moonies and they are all very keen on travelling to the West. My friend at Leningrad University is a Christian and has been trying to inform as many people as possible of the dangers of going on such a trip but it is hard to convince Soviet students who think they can handle propaganda and who may never again have the opportunity of a free trip to the USA. My friend asked me to find out the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of or-ganizations in the USA that may be able to help to rescue these students if they suddenly realize the dangers of this cult after arrival in the USA, but have nowhere else to go. I obtained your name from Deo Gloria, a similar organization to yourselves in England. My friend in Leningrad has given your name and telephone number to as many of the Soviet students going to the USA as possible so there is a chance that you will hear from some of them. I hope that by warning you of these events, some of the disastrous consequences of this situation may be avoided. I have also sent a copy of this letter to Cult Awareness Network in Chicago.
