"IMPORTANT PRECEDENT

Plenty of information about the methods used by scientologists is known 
in publicity thanks to news and legal proceedings.  Many persons versed 
in law, among them professor Erkki Aurej{rvi from the Juridical Faculty 
of the University of Helsinki, have publicly condemned those methods 
which are actually defrauding and extorting under the title of 
religion.                 

Why has the public prosecutor not been more firm in this question?  On 
the other hand we remember that the Helsinki district attorney decided 
not to prosecute in a case where six students were involved with 
systematic defrauding and extorting.  Now we can hope that negative 
publicity has reduced the market of the scientology church in 
Finland.                       

The Espoo regional court has now decided that one individual person was 
not responsible to act as surety for a loan taken out by scientologists. 
The court concluded that the woman did not sign the paper voluntarily but 
after carefully planned and long duration pressure.  There are special 
reasons to study carefully the statements of witness given by a 
psychologist and a psychiatrist

According to these statements scientology uses systematic and carefully 
planned hypnotic-psychological methods.  Thus the woman was not able to 
independently decide to act as surety for a loan or to evaluate the 
importance of signing the paper.  That is why the court decided that the 
woman was not  competent before the law and that she was not responsible 
for the loan.        
 
This case in law has not yet legal force and the Finnish Scientology 
Association has underlined that it is insignificant.  Anyway, this case 
in law gives hope to people disappointed in scientology."
