If you believe that, I have a used car for you. Scientology is trying desperately to avoid the only thing that will really make a difference: criminal prosecution of its leaders. Remember when you were in Scientology, how anything could be rationalized? "You should Buy Now Because...." Whatever was wanted at the moment could be explained as "the greatest good for the greatest number of dynamics." The sales technique was to demand the specific action (GIVE ME THE CHECK!) and allow complete flexibility in how the individual rationalized and justified that action. Human creativity is wonderful. In the same way we are now going to see a marvelous proliferation of reasons why it's ok to settle with Scientology. "I've done my part." "We'll use their money to finance cult education projects." "All I want is reasonable compensation." "The settlement will enforce cleaning up their act....." Bullshit. And bullshit. And bullshit. And bullshit. Scientology knows that the offer of money and peace will be irresistible to people who have suffered and fought beyond human endurance. Everyone will produce, in his or her own creative way, the rationalizations that work for him or her. The bottom line is that any coherent public exposure of Scientology will fragment and dissolve. Scientology has a winning strategy here. They count on the opposition dissolving in money, into incoherent fragments, each justifying its own action in its own way. Money will make it happen, and Scientology has money. They will win unless we do something extraordinary like STAY FOCUSED ON CRIMINAL PROSECUTION. The most pathetic rationalizations of all involve "using Scientology's money against them." Remember in the fairy tales what happens when you eat the witch's food? The image is valid even if we can't fully comprehend or explain the mechanism by which "the witch's food" entraps us and derails our purpose. Maybe it's the busybody mechanics and delays of trying to enforce a constantly eroding "agreement." Maybe it's the moral compromises we make, almost without noticing (just as one gets recruited into a cult in the first place), in order to reach a "settlement." To the evil empire, settlements like this are just a routine cost of doing business. Nothing changes. I support using Scientology's money against them IF it is -- -- money collected from open court judgments AGAINST THEM and NOT -- money THEY "AGREE TO" in a "settlement." Scientology CANNOT reform. An organization that worships a psychopath cannot be sane. An organization that believes its mission to be above any government and moral code cannot be trusted. An organization that depends for its existence on deception ("niacin and exercise remove toxins from the body") and long-term hypnotic training ("TRs"and "auditing") cannot be benign. Any rationalizations we produce which justify taking money because they "agree to reform" are prima facie indications that Scientology has won. Scientology cannot renounce L. Ron Hubbard, auditing, the Purification Rundown, TRs, and "ethics" and still be Scientology. But otherwise it continues to be harmful and destructive. That is its nature. Talk of "reform" is bullshit. Such talk may be useful to someone's rationalizations but it has no other meaning. -- Bob ================================================================= If this is a copyrighted work, you are acknowledging by receipt of this document from FACTNet that on the basis of reasonable investigation, you have not been to obtain a copy elsewhere at a fair price, and that you are and will abide by the following copyright warning.
