The bitter vent of a man who learnt by chance about the painful end of
whom left him to follow Scientology

Mestre - After two months he finds out, by chance, that his ex wife died
for a cancer at the hospital.

This also can be the effect of Scientology, the cult founded by the
sfi-fi writer Ron Hubbard in the United States in 1952, and now spread
all over the world.

The death of this woman, Gabriella Bramucci, 55 years old, is the ending
of a family influenced by dianeticists for years. A father, a mother and
three children. A father, Dino Michieletto, who fought - unsuccessfully
- trying to pull his family out of the cult, losing money and health and
being payed back - as he explains - with a great number of threats. At
the end he partly gave up: he went on in his struggle against
Scientology, but also decided to build a new family. He now lives with a
young lady and has a small son. "This new stroke is too much - says
Michieletto -finding out, reported by an acquaitance met on the street,
that your ex wife died two months before and she was cremated. It is
inhuman".

Afterwards Michieletto contacted the doctors who treated his ex-wife
(from which, as the court decision writes, he divorced for Scientology
fault). The woman was hospitalized a first time on July 21st, 1997.
Tests showed that the cancer, started in the breast, had moved to the
liver. Doctors informed her children who were supported in their grieve
by the peculiar Scientology philosophy. This - says Michieletto -
translates everything into a simple phrase: "Everything happening to us
is our fault, because we were evil in our previous lives". Gabriella
Bramucci was dismissed on July 31st. On August 6th she went back to the
hospital, where she died. "She died - says Michieletto - because she
didn't follow treatment. Dianeticists can act like this. According to
them, every desease is psychosomatic, and they treat it with a "touch
assist". They touch you with a finger and ask you if you feel it. After
your positive reply, they answer "thank you". If you do not recover, the
fault is just yours. And so, at the age of 55, my wife died".

The woman's funeral, cremated afterwards, was attended only by
Scientology pratictioners. Michieletto didn't get a single phone call,
not even by his children. He is - he reminds us - a man who can be
"tricked, sued, destroyed" because he damaged the cult. And we can think
that his "confrontation" with Scientology, after this tragedy, will go
on. Respecting the law. He was resigned, but now he took strenght again.
"All this was too painful. I know I lost my children, but I'll go on
with my fight anyhow".

It seems that Michieletto is not alone in his struggle against
Scientology. Another death in the U.S., a mysterious one this time,
burst out the anger of americans. To smooth the way is the powerful New
York Times which took this event as a starting point for a new inquiry
into the activities of the organization.

Dino Michieletto and the journalist of the "Gazzettino" were sued for
libel, slander and for violating the law No. 205/93 (discrimination,
hate and violence for racial, etnic and religious reasons) by the
President of the Church of Scientology - Padua.

The suit was filed a first time on Dec. 1st, 1998. Having the decision
been appealed, it was filed again on July 9th, 1999.

L'amaro sfogo di un uomo che ha saputo per caso della dolorosa fine di
chi l'aveva abbandonato per seguire Scientology

Scopre due mesi dopo che I'ex moglie è morta

"I dianetici si comportano così: ogni malattia per loro sarebbe
psicosomatica. Se poi non guarisci la colpa è solo tua"

Mestre - Scopre casualmente, due mesi dopo, che l'ex moglie è morta di
tumore in un letto d'ospedale.

Anche questo può essere l'effetto di Scientology, la setta fondata negli
Stati Uni-ti nel 1952 dallo scrittore di fantascienza Ron Hubbard e che
negli anni si è diffusa in tutto il mondo.

La morte di questa donna, Gabriella Bramucci, di 55 an-ni, è l'epilogo
della storia di una famiglia influenzata ne-gli anni dai dianetici.
Padre, madre, tre figli. Un padre Di-no Michieletto, che ha com-battuto
- inutilmente - nel tentativo di strappare alla setta il resto dei
familiari. Rimettendoci denaro e salute, ricevendo in cambio - spiega -
minacce in mille modi diversi. Alla fine si è in parte rassegnato: ha
continuato a com-battere Scientology ma ha anche deciso di crearsi una
nuova famiglia. Ora vive con una giovane signora e ha un figlio di pochi
anni. "Questo nuovo colpo non ci voleva - dice Michieletto - scoprire,
da una donna per strada, che la tua ex moglie è morta da due mesi e che
l'hanno cremata è inumano".

In seguito Michieletto si è rivolto ai medici che avevano in cura l'ex
moglie (dalla quale, come dice la sentenza, si era separato per colpa di
Scientology). La donna era stata ricoverata una prima volta il 21luglio
1997. Dagli esami era stato riscontrato che il tumore, partito dal seno,
si era diffuso fino al fegato. Della gravità della s-tuazione i sanitari
avevano avvisato i figli che, pur nel dolore, erano sostenuti dalla
particolare filosofia di Scientology che tradurrebbe - dice Michieletto
- tutto in una semplice frase: "Tutto ciò che accade è colpa nostra,
perché siamo stati cattivi in precedenti vite". Gabriella Bramucci venne
dimessa il 31luglio. Il 6 agosto ritornò in ospedale e il giorno dopo
morì. "È morta - secondo Michieletto - perchè non si è curata. I
dianetici possono comportarsi così. Ogni malattia per loro sarebbe
psicosomatica; e curata con il sistema del "touch assist". Ti toccano
con un dito e ti chiedono se lo senti. Alla tua risposta positiva ti
rispondono grazie. Se n on guarisci la causa è solo tua. E così, a 55
anni mia moglie è morta".

Ai funerali della donna, che poi è stata cremata, hanno partecipato solo
i praticanti di Scientology. Per Micheletto neanche una telefonata dei
figli. Lui - ricorda - è un uomo "da ingannare, distruggere, citare in
giudizio" perchè ha fatto troppo male alla setta. E c'è da pensare che
il suo "confronto" con Scientology, dopo questa tragedia, continuerà.
Rispettando la legge. Si era rassegnato, ora ha ripreso vigore. "Questa
cosa mi ha fatto troppo male. So di aver per-so i miei figli ma
continuerò a lottare ugualmente".

Ma a quanto sembra non è solo Michieletto che ha deciso di combattere
Scientology. Un'altra morte, stavolta misteriosa, negli Stati Uniti, ha
scatenato le ire di molti americani. E ad aprire la strada c'è il
potente New York Times che ha preso spunto da questa vicenda per una
nuova inchiesta sull'attività dell'organizzazione.
