A controversial "purification" regime used by the Church of Scientology to advance members' spiritual enlightenment is also being used by Narconon, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre, and is being offered at a Toronto health clinic. An Ontario Supreme Court judge says a lower court can ban publication of the hearing of a Scientologist who is pleading guilty of possessing a stolen document. Mr. Justice David Watt yesterday sent the case of Kathleen Lepp back to Provincial Court, but to a different judge than the one who ruled in January he lacked authority to issue the ban. The Church of Scientology and some of its members who were charged after a raid on its headquarters are asking for a publication ban on a guilty plea by one of the co-accused. Kathleen Lepp, 37, of Niagara-on-the-Lake, charged with possession of stolen property, appeared in Provincial Court at old city hall Friday.
