Scientology in clubland? — 3D World (Australia)
Type: Press
Source: 3D World (Australia)
Dear 3D, I just read on the Internet that the founder of Scientology - L. Ron Hubbard "was not only an accomplished songwriter and composer, his breakthrough work in computerized music influenced professionals around the world." (see the website http://www.lronhubbard.org/lrhhome.htm) This makes me really angry, as this is from one of Scientology's websites. I mean, WHAT A LOT OF CRAP!!!!!! I reckon http://www.xenu.net tells the real story. Cheers and too few beers, Slugfest

Censorship won't stop slaughter — Sun Herald (Australia)
Type: Press
Source: Sun Herald (Australia)
AFTER reading so many news articles of violent deaths and murders in the past few weeks I am sure I am not alone in wanting a solution to the problems that cause such occurrences. Frustrated politicians and social commentators tell us that we have to stop the killing, and the primary solutions offered are more police, tighter gun controls, "intervention" with enforced mental health "treatment" and tougher prison sentences. And while it is obviously true we have to do something about ...

The Church of Scientology has launched a countrywide personal attack against a University of Alberta professor who has publicly criticized some of their practices. In the two-page article, Kent is compared to well-known neo-Nazi hatemongerer Ernst Zundel and is referred to "as the academic point man for the voices of hate ...

Letter to the editor — Revolver (Australia)
Type: Press
Source: Revolver (Australia)
Dear Revolver, I pass on a big yawn to letter writer "Slug" (Revolver #28) who recirculated once again a tired old lie about L. Ron Hubbard which has been disproved in various forums around the world on many, many occasions. I quote from a statutory declaration by David A Kyle, a publisher who was present at the meeting of literary figures at which L. Ron Hubbard was supposed to have made the statement ascribed to him so smugly by Slug. ...

Dear Revolver, I have known about the McSpotlight site (www.mcspotlight.org - good on ya for mentioning it!!!!) for some time, and must admit that I was a little pissed off when I read a piece on a certain hamburger restaurant in an earlier issue of Revolver. However, maybe you can alert your readership about another group accused of exploiting people (especially the young, the curious, reforming druggies etc) - Scientology. This group was founded by an ex Science Fiction writer (L ...

Scientology slips through the net — Wired
Type: Press
Author(s): Judy Bryan

Depending on whom you ask, last week's verdict in Religious Technology Center v. Keith Henson is either a vote for intellectual property rights or a vote against freedom of information. But regardless of whom you ask, Henson is in an unenviable position: He faces a US$75,000 fine for violating the Church of Scientology's copyright. And this Friday, the Palo Alto, California, electrical engineer must tell the judge in the case why he should not be held in contempt of court for ...

UN asks Germany to clarify surveillance of Scientologists — BBC News

The United Nations special rapporteur on religion has asked Germany to make clear why it has placed the Church of Scientology under surveillance. The rapporteur rejected allegations by the Scientologists that Germany's attitude towards them is reminiscent of the Nazis. But he warned that the emotional debate about new religious movements may lead to prejudice, and asked Germany to begin a campaign against religious intolerance. The German authorities say surveillance of Scientologists is necessary because of what they call the movement's ...

WASHINGTON – After years of holding the U.S. government in contempt, the Church of Scientology is enlisting members of Congress, the U.S. State Department and even President Clinton to advance its agenda in foreign lands. And the group — Narconon Inc. of Everett — is being paid with taxpayer dollars without disclosing its Scientology connections. Narconon was paid at least $942,853 over an eight-year period for delivering anti-drug lectures at public and parochial schools throughout the region, according to federal income tax documents. There are some Germans out there who don't trust John Travolta. The reason this German lawmaker worries about the popular movie actor getting to see the president and his advisers is that Travolta is a ...
