Dear Sir,

Re: FUSS - The Big Story leaflet

We act for the Church of Scientology Religious Education College Inc, and have 
had passed to us a leaflet which we understand is published by yourself and 
others entitled The Big Story. This leaflet is wholly and deliberately 
misleading, scurrilous and defamatory of our client. Unless it is immediately 
withdrawn, and the other steps set out below complied with, our instructions are 
to commence a libel action against you.

The leaflet contains inter alia a number of purported quotations from Mr. 
Hubbard. We have been unable to identify the last of these quotations, but all 
of the rest are taken entirely out of context in a malicious fashion. As you 
will be well aware, read in proper context they all convey an entirely
different message. The first quotation, for example, is taken from an issue
which specifically warns against brainwashing techniques. The third quotation, 
falsely and scurrilously stated to be Scientology Governing Policy, is 
extracted from a section of an issue dealing with keeping any organisation 
solvent. And the last but one quotation is taken from an issue dealing with 
persons who try to provide corrupted versions of Scientology for their own 
profit.

The leaflet also misstates rulings in three European countries, and fails to
put these into proper context. It also quotes part of a judgement from a
custody dispute in 1984, which the Court of Appeal specifically ruled had no 
precendential value or relevance outside of that custody dispute,
mischieviously suggesting that it can be read in a more general context.

The picture presented by what can only be described as a propandist leaflet 
designed maliciously to incide hatred towards our client, is wholly false. 
Accordingly unless you do the following within 7 days of the date of this
letter proceedings will be issued against you, including a claim for
defamation damages and costs, without further recourse:

1. Immediately cease distribution of the leaflet.

2. Destroy all copies of the leaflet in your custody or control

3. Provide a full apology to our client, including a complete retraction.

4. Undertake not to repeat the same or any similar libels in the future
